<hi style=afpcap>The Bell X-5 was the third special research aircraft type produced by the company to evaluate a variety of aeronautical tests. The X-5 featured a variable wing sweep design, which was extremely futuristic at the time. Two examples were built to evaluate the proof of concept, f their career at Edwards AFB.</hi>
